The Assessment Center? It is a method, not a place. It is a highly versatile and complex tool for evaluating a person's knowledge, abilities and motivation considered critical for the success in a specific job.

The assessment evaluation is based on objectivity. The Assessment Center is process where:

  • several candidates are assessed together, thus making possible to observe the group behavior and interactions
  • several pre-defined criteria are assessed, thus making the evaluation more objective and comprehensive; each participant is evaluated based on multiple competencies, personality features and motivational fit criteria
  • several different exercises are used to assess behavior in different situations
  • several observers (assessors) evaluate the candidates, thus making the process more objective and unbiased
  • all results are integrated, thus creating a complex and detailed report on each candidate's strengths and limitations.

The results of this complex evaluation may be used for:

  • internal and external selection
  • promotion
  • individual and/or team training needs assessment
  • evaluation of development programs efficiency (training- mentoring-coaching etc.)
  • career planning and succession planning
  • investigating the managerial styles as part of cultural change of the organization.

The key-element of a successful Assessment Center is a well-defined competency model. The competency-matrix to be assessed should be carefully designed together with the client, based on the existent competency-set of the organization or may be created according to the specific needs and evaluation's objectives.
